Astrology and the Jupiter Retrograde

If you thought my previous description of the effects of Mercury
retrograde was dire, then you need to get a load of what happens
when Jupiter, a much larger and more influential planet, decides to
do the same and troll backwards in the sky.

Jupiter is one of the most potent planets in the solar system,
typically ruling health, wealth, generosity, kindness and anything
that is big, welcome and good in our lives.

Unfortunately, this lordly planet decides to go retrograde
(appear to move backwards through the sky) for about three months
every year.

When this planet moves backwards the more unpleasant aspects of the
human condition are often emphasized including selfishness, greed,
fanaticism, over-indulgence and war. On a mass scale a
backwards-swinging Jupiter can mean regression to barbarism and
torture. On a personal level it can mean a swelling waistline or a
shrinking waistline. To sum it up, a retrograde Jupiter mostly
means pain, suffering and exploitation of some kind especially for
the sign it is in.

Jupiter, which rules political, religious and financial matter
experienced a retrograde phase in 2006 from March 6th to July 6th.
This was in the sometimes very nasty sign of Scorpio making
revenge, torture and war the focus of this particular phase.
During this type of Jupiter retrograde, morals appear to be lacking
altogether or people are subjected to a religious dominance that is
too orthodox and strict. Typical of the fanaticism signified by a
Jupiter Retrograde in Scorpio would be the religious wars taking
place in the Middle East.

Jupiter rules our potential for growth and expansion on many
levels: physical, intellectual, spiritual and cultural, along with
the accumulation of material assets, power and status. This is also
a planet that rules our optimism and highest ideals (including our
religious beliefs and faith) as well as publishing and higher
education.

Jupiter is also symbolic of the bold and merry fool so he also
rules speculation, adventure and gambling. It is probably likely
that the casinos cleaned up during March, April, May and June of
2006 as the Jupiter retrograde would not have favoured the luck of
the gambler but rather the luck of the house.

This massive planet spends about a year in each sign, taking twelve years to complete the journey through all twelve signs. He turns retrograde once a year for 120 days, being stationary for some 10 days.

In 2011 the retrogrades will take place from August 30, 2011 until December 25, 2011 in Taurus.

Rethink philosophical challenges and religious activities. Engage in philanthropic work. Reevaluate previous beliefs, legal matters, and management policies. Faith in government, education, experts and law is questioned. Folks born with Jupiter retrograde make great travel agents who prefer to stay home, and great sports coaches who don't play the game.

Jupiter retrograde is more spiritual and philosophical so it is a time to explore philosophies, possibly something simpler from a time in your past. According to Delphine Jay, this period may produce an event that reminds you of a time when you had a better perspective on life. She furthermore feels that it is an excellent time to complete Jupitarian projects such as going back to school to complete your education, taking a long distance trip that you have postponed, and making a connection with a long lost friendship. It is a good time to take spiritual or philosophical courses with the objective of gaining a better perspective on life.

Mercury Retrograde

Welcome to the first in a series of articles devoted to the more
eclectic side of astrology.

In this unusual series (which is a little more than a primer in
astrology and a little less then a PhD in the subject!), we are
going to discuss those things that you have always wondered about
astrology in general and also clarify some of the things you will
find in your own chart.

We will also be explaining some synastry (relationship astrology)
as well a look at some celebrity charts.

Perhaps one astrology term you've been hearing a lot about lately
is Mercury Retrograde. These retrogrades, which cause the planet of
communication to move backwards through the sky last three to four
weeks and occur three to four times a year. This bodes a time when
everything seems to be a case of "too little too late" or "too much
too soon."

Delays, computer problems, broken promises and relationship problems
are also typical of Mercury retrograde periods. Problems with
transportation and missing crucial bits of information that prevent
you from achieving an understanding or "moving forward" are also
typical during a mercury retrograde period.

A planet can described as retrograde when it appears to be moving
backwards through the zodiac. Of course this is an illusion ...
actually the earth is rotating causing the planets to seem to be
moving backwards n the sky. Planets are never actually retrograde
or stationary, they just seem that way, due to this optical
illusion.

Retrograde periods, although often problematic for mere mortals,
are not particularly uncommon. Each planet retrogrades, except the
Sun and Moon. In general when a planet is retrograde, it seems that
inevitable fated events may take place causing us to feel like we
are not in control in life.

A retrograde period is best perceived as a cycle that consists of
three stations. The motion is like a pendulum swinging with a start
backward, a stop and a start forward and a stop again.

A station is when the planet appears to be motionless in the sky.
The first station occurs when the planet begins to slow to a halt
before appearing to travel backwards through the zodiac. The second
station occurs when the planet slows down while moving backwards
and appears to stop before moving forward again. The third station
occurs when the planet returns to the point where it first paused
(made a station.). The negative energy of the planet's retrograde
is most powerful while the planet is stationary and more likely to
generate critical or disastrous results.

Mercury retrogrades can be very uncomfortable as they affect
thinking, perception, communication, commerce and transportation.
People who work with their minds or their wits including writers,
commentators and media types are particularly personally affected
by mercury retrogrades. The base functionality of telephones and
computers are often affected, as is reception for radios and
televisions. Cable television that is installed during Mercury
retrograde is likely to be fuzzy for a lifetime.

Mercury retrogrades also have a terrible "slowing down" effect on
freelancers who often find their "check is in the mail" and also on
doctors who have problems taking good x-rays or locating blood
tests. Projects started during mercury retrograde often have to be
done over again.

Mercury retrogrades make our lives such hell that we can hardly
wait for them to be over. Still even though most mercury
retrogrades last two to four weeks, they are also accompanied by
what is called the "retrograde shadow." The retrograde "Mercury
shadow" begins about three weeks before the actual retro station
and some three weeks after direct station.

Mercury retrograde, like any planetary aspect, affects people
differently, depending on where it hits their personal charts. Some
people actually prosper under a retro Mercury, especially if they
were born with a Mercury retrograde in their birth chart. For
instance if you have Mercury retrograde in your Tenth House (house
of career) at birth you could be cleaning up financially while your
friend with Mercury direct in the tenth house loses all his
business to you!

However one thing to remember that often projects begun during a
retro mercury period will not come to fruition or completion until
the next retro Mercury station occurs.

In general it is wise not to make any big moves - sign big
contracts, buy or rent a house, purchase appliance or computer
equipment or propose marriage during a retrograde Mercury period.
As mental facilities are also dimmed by this influence it is also
not a good time to take a test.

Think the Mercury retrograde is a big deal! It's nothing compared
to the effects of a Jupiter retrograde. In next week's article
we will discuss what happens when the planet of wealth and
generosity moves backwards in the sky ...

Traditional Birthstones for Each Month

You might think that birthstones are only associated with the
Zodiac signs. This is not exactly true. They are also associated
with what month you are born in. The origin of the twelve monthly
birthstones was thought to have originated in Bible as they were
found on the breastplates of Aaron.

Yet another difference between the monthly and the Zodiac stones is
that the monthly stones have more a numerological association
whereas the Zodiac stones relate more to astrology.

January - The garnet is named as the January birth stone in just
about every tradition or culture The glittering red garnet is the
stone representing January in Hebrew, Roman, Arabic, Polish and
Russian traditions. In the ancient Hindu tradition the stone for
January was the serpent stone, but this is not a stone that has been
seen by anyone. Chances are it was a ruby or a black stone.

February - The symbolic stone is agreed upon as being the amethyst
according to North American, Hebrew, Roman, Arabic, Polish and
Russian traditions. In ancient Hindu it was the chandrakankta
which once again is a stone nobody living today has ever seen so
it cannot be described.

March - Modern North America culture names the aquamarine as the
stone for this month. However in Hebrew, Roman, Arabic, Polish and
Russian traditions the stone for this stormy month is the
bloodstone. In the ancient Hindu tradition it was a stone called
gold-sivalinga which once again is not a stone ever seen by
contemporary eyes.

April - North American culture names the diamond as the birth stone
for April. In Jewish, Hindu and Polish cultures the diamond is also
named as the April birthstone. However in Roma, Persian and
Russian traditions, the stone that has symbolized the month is
sapphire.

May - In contemporary North American, Arabic, Hindu, Polish and
Russian traditions, the birthstone for the month of May is emerald.
However the Hebrew and Roman traditions say the month belongs to
the agate.

June - June is one of those months that seem to be symbolized by an
array of stones. Contemporary North American culture names the
stone of the month to be moonstone, pearl or alexandrite. Ancient
Hindu tradition also names the pearl as the birthstone for June.
However in ancient Roman and Hebrew traditions June was ruled by
the emerald (possibly because the green represented summer.) In
Russian, Polish and Arabic cultures the stone that rules this month
is agate, which to make things even more confusing is a striped
stone comes in many colors.

July- In North American, Polish and Russian culture the birthstone
for this mid summer month is ruby. In Hebrew and Roman traditions
it is onyx. The Arabic culture assigns the carnelian to July and
the Hindu religion says a sapphire represents this month.

August - Many different stones are often said to belong to the
month of August. The modern North American tradition says the month
is symbolized by peridot. The Hebrew and Roman traditions attribute
it to the carnelian. The Arabic and Polish traditions say the month
belongs to the sardonyx. The Hindu tradition assigns August the
ruby and the Russian tradition assigns it the alexandrite.

September - In modern North American traditions, this autumn month
is said to be ruled by the sapphire. However in Hebrew, Roman,
Arabic, Polish and Russian traditions peridot is given as the
ruling stone. The Hindu tradition assigns the zircon to September.

October - The opal or the tourmaline is usually assigned to
October. However Hebrew, Roman, Arabic and Polish birth gem stone
traditions say that aquamarine is the symbolic stone. The Russian
culture says the month is ruled by the beryl. Ancient Hindu
tradition says the stone is coral.

November - The North American tradition assigns either yellow topaz
or citrine as the gemstones for this month. The Hebrew, Roman,
Arabic and Russian traditions also say it belongs to topaz.
November is symbolized by the cat's eye in the Hindu culture.

December - The North American tradition says December is symbolized
by three choices of three blue stones: tanzanite, turquoise or blue
topaz. The Hindu religion also assigns it to topaz, and the Russian
and Polish traditions assign it to turquoise. The Arabic, Roman and
Hebrew traditions say the rosy colored ruby rules this month.

This is interesting because very often your choice of a Zodiac
stone will conflict with what is the birth month stone. Some of
the stones also cross over to astrology. For instance if you are
born in November the symbolic stone is topaz and if you are a
Sagittarian born after the 23rd then your stone will be at topaz as
well.

The Moon

If the sun is the most important of the celestial bodies for the inhabitants of the earth, the Moon is undoubtedly the most mysterious. As opposed to the life-giving properties and warmth of the sun, the Moon is said to give out a mystical power, and to rule over growth, the hidden processes of nature, the hollow spaces of the earth, and the movements of all the fluid elements within and upon the earth’s surface.

I find the moon a very spiritual light it can change everything around you in it's glow.

A fellow blogger has some brilliant pictures of the moon phases, take a look and see what you think :)

Pisces

This month I am going to focus on birthdays and the astrology signs for March which of course starts off with pisces, If your birthday was from 20th Feb up to 20th March, this is for you.

PISCES (Feb 20th to March 20th)

March 2007

March 2007
Pisces, , a Full Moon Lunar Eclipse in virgo, on March 3 will bring fatigue and uneasiness. On March 8 and 9, you can zero in on what is really important and you'll know intuitively how to proceed.
The 11th, something shifts -- you're at a turning point where you can let go of something that's been holding you back. The 14th, spend the day quietly solving problems, and then spend the evening feeling nice and calm.
With the New Moon Solar Eclipse in your sign on March 18, you can truly make a fresh start by having faith and letting go of old patterns. This will be a six-month process that will be very positive. Be easy on yourself on March 21 and take time to relax.
The 23rd, make your vision a reality, and the 27th, spend the afternoon getting your message out there. The 30th, take a nice deep breath -- and a bubble bath!

The 13th Sign

A 13th sign has emerged in the 12-sign zodiac thanks to tiny shifts or wobbles in the Earth's rotation around the Sun, Basically, the Sun's apparent path has moved since 3000 years ago when astrology was born.

The new sign is Ophiuchus, or the Serpent Bearer, which falls between November 30 and December 18, placing it between Scorpio and Sagittarius.

Ophiuchus is said to represent Aesculapius, the ancient healer, with the serpent's venom able to cure or kill.
People born under the sign are said to be healers, but they are also said to be skilled interpreters of dreams, seekers of peace, poetical and attract good luck.

The reason that Ophiuchus is not a part of the western astrological zodiac is because that zodiac is defined on the basis of the sun spending an equal amount of time in twelve astrological signs starting at the vernal equinox in the northern hemisphere — this is called the tropical zodiac. There is also a sidereal zodiac, which is based on the actual location of the stars in the sky, and which is used by Hindu and some Western astrologers. At present, the sun is in Ophiuchus from November 30th to December 17th.

Lunar Eclipse

Ok who else saw it? i was out from 10:pm last night till gone midnight was very strange thing to watch the moon shadow over and turn red, the below artical is from Yahoo news.

Thousands of people gazed in awe as the skies remained clear for the most spectacular lunar eclipse in more than a decade. The first total eclipse of the moon in three years was visible across England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland last night thanks to crisp weather.
The surface of the full Moon first went dark before turning a coppery red, to the delight of people who had stayed up to watch the display.
The Moon started to become obscured from 20:18 and was at its height between
The phenomenon occurred because the Earth passed directly between the Moon and the Sun.
Light scattering through the Earth's atmosphere was reduced to predominantly-red wavelengths, which reflect off the lunar surface.
In ancient times a "blood Moon" was viewed with dread and seen as an omen of disaster or great change.
This year's lunar eclipse could be seen most clearly from Europe, Africa

Astrology Jokes

HOW THE TWELVE SIGNS DEAL WITH NEAR DEATH EXPERIENCES:

ARIES: "Who's in charge here? I'd like to see God right now, please. Am I dead? Gee, I never thought that could happen to me! Where can I get a crystal palace backlit with white light like that one?"

TAURUS: Leaving the body, Taurus realizes that he or she no longer has a stomach and immediately returns to the body (thud!), without seeing tunnels, light, God, etc., making Taurus skeptical for the rest of his or her life.

GEMINI: The key thing to the zodiacal twins isn't the experience itself, but how they can embellish it when telling the story (or writing about it). Since Geminis are comfortable in all worlds, except those without telephones, they usually bounce back to the body fairly rapidly-- and the mouth tends to work before the rest of the body comes back to life.

CANCER: Cancerians can live to be 125 years old, and they don't usually have near death experiences, but they can come awfully close to having a near life experience when they get brave and venture out of their house for "supplies."

LEO: "Nooooooo, I am NOT dead. I am not, I am not, I am not . . . Who are those guys in the white robes? What's that they're singing . . . ? They're off key. I can sing better than that! Where's the choir director? I need a microphone immediately. Unless it's Rolling Stone or Spin, hold my calls."

VIRGO: Working a marathon 60 hours straight, Virgo collapses and leaves the body. She moves through that delightfully clean and sparkling tunnel of light, occasionally reflecting upon possible improvements . . . but soon becomes so worried by the thought of her loved ones "managing" without her that she snaps back into the body like white lightning, sits up, and calmly pronounces herself alive, glancing at her watch.

LIBRA: Floating out of the body, then in, then out, then in, and finally out again . . . Libra sees a tunnel and a vibrant being of light at the other end. "Wow, is that Jesus ? Wait a minute, maybe it's Kwan Yin . That looks like something she'd wear." Never deciding whether to go through the tunnel (after all, what's death without someone to share it with?) Libra ends up back in the body by default, hounded by a mysterious compulsion to start a dating service for discarnate souls.

SCORPIO: Since most Scorpio's have nine lives, they tend to brainstorm different ways to trigger the near death experience. Once nearly dead, most can barely get to the end of the tunnel without meeting some being with whom they have astral sex. When asked whom they prefer to greet them on the other side, 75% name a favorite vampire, and Medusa is a strong contender.

SAGITTARIUS: Sag floats out of her body and has to laugh at the stupid way she bought the farm. After somehow BREAKING the tunnel of light, she absolutely refuses to return to the body, since she's been trying to get out of it for all these years (via clumsy accidents). Because Sag is immensely curious about whether the so-called organized religious have any validity at all, this stroke of luck leads to some amaaaaaazing lessons, until, alas, the astral folks tire of her and trick her into returning to Earth for the duration.

CAPRICORN: It might take Capricorn a little while to realize he is dead because there are special rooms set up to look like executive offices for newly-dead Goats. A sharp-looking, older gentleman-ghost comes in and gives Cap an instruction manual titled HOW TO PROFIT IN THE ASTRAL MARKETPLACE, plus a "job evaluation" type assessment of Cap's achievements and mistakes over the lifetime, followed by a pink slip (meaning the body revived). Caps tend to return to their bodies quickly, unable to tolerate non-physical existence for long.

AQUARIUS: Aquarius gets to the pearly gates, sees that heaven isn't run by consensus, and opts for hell, where at least there is an appealing anarchy and rules are made to be broken. Ironically, Aquarian near-death experiences tend to be extremely traditional, i.e., God the Father, St. Peter , the celestial choir and so on (another reason to rebel and opt for hell). Once in the underworld, they bedevil the hell out of Satan and his cronies with their loud and vigorous campaigns for progressive reforms, and are quickly expelled back to the body.

PISCES: For some reason, our Piscean friends barely notice their near death experiences. Instead, during a typical day at the office, many Pisceans report seeing beings with long-suffering expressions on their faces and who patiently tell the Piscean to go back to his or her body.

Aquarius

This month I am going to focus on birthdays and the astrology signs for February which of course starts off with aquarius, If your birthday was from 21st Jan up to 19th Feb, this is for you.

AQUARIUS (Jan 21st to Feb 19th)

February 2007

The Sun's in your sign, aquarius. Happy birthday! The first event on the is the Full Moon in leo, on Feb 2nd, focusing on the needs and concerns of partners or close associates. Expect some excitement, interest, or an impulse for change with those close to you.
An old problem needs to be sorted out, or a new matter come to grips with. Listen! Work and do things together to establish new levels of cooperation. Those in a relationship may be excited, or perhaps testy. If you're not in a close relationship, there may be a prospect on the horizon. There will also just be people you need to work closely with or cooperate with.
If there are things to resolve, work on them. If people are upset, emotional or excited, soothe or support them.
Finance will increasingly be the issue in the second week. With Mercury and Venus in the sign of the Fishes, get the budget and personal spending in order by putting them both under review. You may sever connections. You may flag old areas of endeavour or pick new ones. Contacts involved in general financial dealings may change unexpectedly.
The tempo of all this will increase as Mercury turns retrograde on Feb 14th. Unexpected expenses may change or challenge your budget. There may be developments that will alter your financial situation. A surprise packet or a surprising individual may change the picture. There will be changes with projects, schemes or ventures, children and romantic attachments as your life goes through a mini revolution.
Reframe yourself, your image and your approach with the New Moon in your sign on Feb 17th. Get down to work on the business of fiscal revision as the Sun enters pisces, on Feb 19th. There may be a bit of drama or a clash at this time. Something may not be able to go ahead or someone won't get what they want. Do things another way.

Mercury retrograde

Mercury enters pisces, on Feb 2nd then turns retrograde on Feb 14th, charged by a near encounter with Uranus and the Lunar Nodes. There will be a revision of basic finance by dint of unexpected change with income or expenditure. There may be fiscal surprises. There may be changes with the people you're used to dealing with.
You may make or lose a financial contact unexpectedly. Ride out the waves and put off major decisions until March. Keep a sense of proportion about any changes. Things may not be what they seem. What's changed may change again before too long. Mercury returns to your sign on Feb 27th.

Birthstones for Febuary

AQUARIUS 21st January to 19th February

PISCES 22th February to 20th March

Amethyst

The ancient Greeks believed that amethyst held many powers, among them protection against intoxication. In fact, the word Amethyst comes from the Greek word "amethystos," meaning sober. In ancient Greece, the gemstone was associated with the god of wine, and it was common practice to serve this beverage from Amethyst goblets in the belief that this would prevent over indulgence. Even today, Amethyst is considered a stabilizing force for those struggling to overcome addictive behaviours.

Amethyst is also symbolic of spirituality, and has been used to ornament churches and crosses used in religious ceremony. Amethyst has also been worn in rings and on rosaries by bishops and priests.

It is one of the most effective stones to use for meditation, because its calming attributes relax the mind so that it can release its attachment to the daily concerns of life and slip into a more expansive reality. If you'd like to meditate with this stone, place it on your forehead between your eyes.

Whatever else you may believe about amethyst, there is no doubt that the purple stone is one of the most beautiful gemstones in existence. If the amethyst is your birthstone, you are indeed lucky and blessed.

Moon Signs

The Moon is the most important 'planet' in relationships.
The Moon represents deep security needs, and it is difficult to be with with someone who does not offer us what our Moon needs. The element of one's Moon sign and house are elements that one's partner must have in a significant way if we are to be compatible with them.
If one's partner is not strongly made up of the same element of one's Moon sign and/or house, then strong harmonious aspects between one's Moon and the partner's chart could also create a harmonious Moon connection.
Positive Moon compatibility will show two people who feel "at home" with one another, and instinctively care for one another. It's like being family.
That's why it's the most important planet in synastry. If you want to spend the rest of your life sleeping in the same bed as someone else, you obviously need to feel like family to one another. In particular, since the Moon is feminine, the Moon shows what a man needs in a woman. But the Moon definitely shows very vital needs for women, as well.

When the Moon is in a certain sign of the zodiac, then the characteristics of that sign will colour the moon's expression. If you don't know what your moon sign is and would like to find out, just send us an e-mail with your time, date and place of birth and we will send you your moon sign
To give an example, although my Sun Sign is Cancer, my Moon Sign is Virgo

Capricorn

Each month I am going to focus on birthdays and the astrology signs the first part of January is of course Capricorn, If your birthday was from 1st Jan up to 20th Jan, this is for you.

CAPRICORN (Dec 22nd to Jan 20th)

January 2007

With the Sun in your sign this month, capricorn, you'll be feeling strong and in control.

Take advantage of intuitive hunches on January 2 that will help you in your work and career. The Full Moon in cancer, on January 3 may bring out feelings of insecurity and vulnerability.

Because of this, you may be open to explore new ideas and approaches later in the week, which you can then find a practical application for. This month is a great time to solve problems and to move beyond your usual way of dealing with them, pushing the envelope.

You have to be willing to face your fears in the process and challenge yourself. With Mars and the Moon in capricorn on January 16, you will shine by using your management and organizational skills. There will be an increased workload, but you will be able to meet demands.

A New Moon in capricorn on January 18 will usher in a phase of making a new start with your ambitions and plans. Take the time to figure out where you want to be in five years.

On January 23 and 24, you may encounter someone who is overly enthusiastic and who tends to be bossy. Listen to their ideas, but only agree to the most realistic ones.

They may want to force some changes, so make sure they don't go too far. At the end of the month, you may need a change but will be unsure of how to move forward and make progress.
