Anouncement

Hi everyone, you may of notice little being posted at the moment and have some bad news for readers of Scruffyhippo's blog.

Scruffyhippo was taken into hospital last week suffering with a heart attack and it has taken us all by surprise as he was always busy and very active with a lot of time for everyone.

He is now stable and is due back out today but he has already told me that he will be absent from the internet for a time while he recovers.

I will myself be checking for comments, but in the mean time have opened the comments for the regulars, if you have already left comments in the last week and they have not yet been added, bear with me as I am myself quite new to this and end up having to ask Scruffyhippo dozens of questions.

Blog Update

You may of noticed a lack of articles in the last few weeks, but all of a sudden I got really busy with many things.

It started off with my first few reiki students on the Saturday before easter which went really well, only to lose my full time job on Tuesday (didn't see that coming) well actually I did, sort of ... walked out :)

With that and the circles we are running time seemed to vanish before my eyes, Easter came and went, and started working again, back to my own jobs (carpenter by trade) which of course takes up even more time, which sort of brings us up to date.

In that time have started another website for the Reiki http://www.2worldsholistic.co.uk and taking many bookings for courses already.

On top of all that is all the wedding arrangments for 4th of August (Yes I am getting married) and now the Psychic Visions Summer Event is looming and final bookings need to be sorted for that to, it's a wonder I get on here at all!!!

Add to that the new online workshops, reading nights and circle we will be doing on the Psychic Visions Website I could do with a few more hours in the day.

But I love it ........ it's a buzz being busy, and helping teach others as well as learning much myself, if I think about it theres not much I would change ( except maybe the speed the clock goes round)

I did say on the last Reading of the Week that A funny thing happened when I was copying that reading for the site.... well I myself took all of the reading, yep must of been meant for me too, rare that I get one, most people that know me don't like reading for a tarot teacher so have to go out of the area to get a unbiased reading ( may have to ask the talented Roswila for a reading one day) anyway enough gabble for now.

Plants on other planets may be yellow or red

By Julie Steenhuysen Reuters - Wednesday, April 11

CHICAGO (Reuters) - The same rules that make Earth plants green may make non-Earth plants yellow, red or green -- but likely not blue, NASA scientists said on Wednesday.

They said their findings -- which look at how plants absorb and reflect different types of light -- may help narrow the search for life on planets beyond our solar system.
And, as a bonus, they may have answered a basic question about life on Earth.

"We've uncovered maybe the best explanation of why plants are green," said Nancy Kiang, a NASA biometeorologist who led the study, which appears in the journal Astrobiology.
Understanding plant colours on other planets is important as scientists prepare for new information to be generated from giant space telescopes planned by NASA and the European Space Agency to study Earth-sized planets orbiting other stars.
"We can guess the plausible range of colours they might be," said Vikki Meadows, an astrobiologist the California Institute of Technology who heads NASA's Virtual Planetary Laboratory.

Meadows and a host of scientists from different disciplines first studied how light is absorbed and reflected by plants and some bacteria on Earth.
That led to computer model for predicting the colour of plants on other planets and new insights about plants on Earth.
Chlorophyll in plants takes light from the sun and converts it into energy through a process called photosynthesis.

Scientists have long known that most plants on Earth absorb more blue and red light and less green light, but they have not understood why.
It turns out that more red light reaches plants on Earth, and blue light is the easiest to absorb. So plants make most efficient use of these two, and that leaves green light as largely superfluous.

"They don't absorb the green because they have more than enough light from blue and red. They just don't need green," Kiang said.
As a result, plants reflect away relatively more green light, which is why plants appear green.
"It turns out plants are actually using the best light there is," Kiang said.
On other planets, where other colours of the light spectrum might dominate, the plants might soak up more green or even more blue light and reflect back whatever is not needed for energy.
The scientists believe the same rules will apply on Earth-like planets in other solar systems.
"It turns out that photosynthesis is one of those things that is likely to be common. If we look for life on other planets, we will try to look for signs of photosynthesis," Meadows said.

The 13th Sign

A 13th sign has emerged in the 12-sign zodiac thanks to tiny shifts or wobbles in the Earth's rotation around the Sun, Basically, the Sun's apparent path has moved since 3000 years ago when astrology was born.

The new sign is Ophiuchus, or the Serpent Bearer, which falls between November 30 and December 18, placing it between Scorpio and Sagittarius.

Ophiuchus is said to represent Aesculapius, the ancient healer, with the serpent's venom able to cure or kill.
People born under the sign are said to be healers, but they are also said to be skilled interpreters of dreams, seekers of peace, poetical and attract good luck.

The reason that Ophiuchus is not a part of the western astrological zodiac is because that zodiac is defined on the basis of the sun spending an equal amount of time in twelve astrological signs starting at the vernal equinox in the northern hemisphere — this is called the tropical zodiac. There is also a sidereal zodiac, which is based on the actual location of the stars in the sky, and which is used by Hindu and some Western astrologers. At present, the sun is in Ophiuchus from November 30th to December 17th.

Lunar Eclipse

Ok who else saw it? i was out from 10:pm last night till gone midnight was very strange thing to watch the moon shadow over and turn red, the below artical is from Yahoo news.

Thousands of people gazed in awe as the skies remained clear for the most spectacular lunar eclipse in more than a decade. The first total eclipse of the moon in three years was visible across England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland last night thanks to crisp weather.
The surface of the full Moon first went dark before turning a coppery red, to the delight of people who had stayed up to watch the display.
The Moon started to become obscured from 20:18 and was at its height between
The phenomenon occurred because the Earth passed directly between the Moon and the Sun.
Light scattering through the Earth's atmosphere was reduced to predominantly-red wavelengths, which reflect off the lunar surface.
In ancient times a "blood Moon" was viewed with dread and seen as an omen of disaster or great change.
This year's lunar eclipse could be seen most clearly from Europe, Africa

House of God

Religion always used to be a matter of personal choice, as indeed did making a donation to help fix that leaky church roof or vandalised stain glass window. Not anymore it seems.
Now you can be part of the ‘House of God’ whether you like it or not.
It follows the unearthing of an archaic church law that could spell misery and financial uncertainty for thousands of existing home owners in England and Wales.

A high court ruling could see a pensioner and his wife facing potential financial ruin by the Church of England, which has succeeded in reactivating a medieval law stating the ownership of a piece of farmland makes the couple personally responsible for hundreds of thousands of pounds worth of repairs to the local church chancel, not to mention 15 years of legal costs which will leave them with a bill of around £500,000.00.

When the decision is made on exactly how much the Wallbanks must pay up it means the C of E can hunt down every other homeowner whose houses, gardens or even patios have been constructed on old church land, forcing them to pay unrestricted costs for building repairs to their local church.

When the couple lost their test case in the House of Lords 3 years ago, it gave one of the largest land owners the green light to seek out all other property owners in England and Wales who were in possession of land that once belonged to the church, often as far back as medieval times.
The imininent High Court ruling will then set a precedent for an estimated 5000 parishes opening the flood gates for demands on a range of payments.

Old church land now forms everything from parts of peoples kitchen floors to patios fields and private gardens. It is also part of communal and council land such as schools and hospitals.

Anyone owning this land, whether it’s a square metre or 5 acres, is likely to be liable to foot the bill for building repairs as soon as they are tracked down by the local church via the Parochial Church Council.

Somewhere I seemed to of missed the point but I thought the church was a spiritual organization not legalised extortion!

Scientific Evidence For 'Sixth Sense'

British scientists say there is convincing evidence that a significant proportion of the population possess psychic powers. The British Association for the Advancement of Science was told an increasing number of experiments support the theory of a human "sixth sense" - an ability which may have its roots in our past, when the ability to sense the presence of a predator was a matter of life or death.

The view that people are capable of paranormal feats, such as premonitions, telepathy, and out-of-body experiences, is supported by new research by the Institute of Psychiatry, which suggests the human mind may exist outside the body like an invisible magnetic field. The research is being led by Dr Peter Fenwick, a neuro-psychiatrist at London University, who has just completed a survey of heart patients claiming to have had "near-death experiences" after their hearts had stopped beating. Psychic Poll

More than half of people would turn to therapists such as healers rather than endure long NHS waiting lists, according to a new poll.

And more than two thirds (67%) believe in the psychic powers of mediums and clairvoyants, 54% in ghosts, and 41% in an intelligent life on another planet, the poll found.

Seven out of 10 people questioned could name a paranormal expert, compared with one in 10 who could name a nationally acclaimed doctor.

Regionally, 72% of those in Scotland said they would turn to an alternative therapist to get better, followed by 66% of those in Wales and 45% of Londoners.

When people were asked what mystery of life they would like the answer to, 40% said they would like to know if there is life after death.

One in five (22%) wanted to know if there was life on another planet while 15% would like to find out if there is a God.

Just over a third (36%) of the 3,000 people questioned said they already believed in God.
The ITV2 survey was carried out to mark the return of the show Haunted Homes, which broadcasts on Friday at 10.30pm.

Mia Dolan, a psychic on Haunted Homes, said: "People are no longer embarrassed to see psychics or healers.

"These ancient arts are returning to the forefront of society and, combined with the constant press on the state of the NHS and an increase in the belief of these arts, it's no wonder people are looking elsewhere for healing."

The New Stonehenge

Neolithic site found near England's Stonehenge.

Evidence of a large settlement full of houses dating back to 2,600 BC has been discovered near the ancient stone monument of Stonehenge in southwest England, scientists said on Tuesday.
They suspect inhabitants of the houses, forming the largest Neolithic village ever found in Britain, built the stone circle at Stonehenge -- generally thought to have been a temple, burial ground or an astronomy site -- between 3,000 and 1,600 BC .

The houses measured about 16 feet (5 metres) square and were located in a small valley north of Stonehenge that leads down to the River Avon. They are on either side of an avenue that leads from the river to a wooden version of Stonehenge. More >>
